my customer has just reported to me a error with checkboxitem and validation.
The problem occurs in version Isomorphic SmartClient/SmartGWT Framework (v9.0p_2013-08-09/PowerEdition Deployment 2013-08-09) and in the Showcase.

With the following steps, the behavior is clarified....
1) click on the validate button and you'll see that the error message appears in the checkbox
2) Activate the checkbox and click again to validate.... The error message in the checkbox disappears correctly.
3) Remove the activation of the checkbox again and click on validate. now we expect that the error message appears again as in step 1.
