Flag icon in grid with lowercase filename

I have a directory with icons per country, just like the examples, but only with the file names in lowercase (the data from the JSON response use capitals). Is it easily possible to make this work? Or should I be better of renaming the files?

Thus my data returns "country_code 'US'" and the file name I have is "us.png".
